What year model wing has the best gear ratio to the lowest rpms for touring? So far, the 83 aspy has had the best of the wings i have had. Thanks, David

We would need some more information to compare, like say the engine RPM at 55mph or better still 75mph on the Highway.

Ben.

Not everyone liked the gear ratio changes in the Gl1100 David. The taller 5th gear was great for relaxed cruising, but around town and at slower speeds it meant more frequent changing up and down.

Thanks. Why dont we do a test, and write down the rpms on our wings at 55 and 70 mph, and post them here? I can do 2 of mine today. The 80 standard, and the 83 interstate. The 85 aspy is not even close tn being roadworthy yet. David

I loved the gearing on the 81 Interstate I used to have. Don't remember what it was turning at 60 mph in 5th, but it would accelerate hard without downshifting from that speed when passing. Also would get about 45-48 mpg when cruising. It has embarassed a few 1500 riders from a roll-on in 5th gear too!

My 83 interstate done 25k at 45 mph, 31k at 55, and 39k at 70mph. Seems kinda high, but these were made when the speed limit was 55mph on the interrtate. 80 will post soon. David

My 80 standard done 30k at 55 mph, and 36.5k at 70. A big difference. David

I believe the larger tyre size on the 80 has a lot to do with it. My 83 Aspy done 33.5 rpms at 70 mph. Can the 83 aspy tranny fit in the 83 interstate? Thanks. David
