Is the gearing different between the two? My 82 is at 4000 rpms at 60mph...Is the 83 taller geared? I had an 83 once and it seemed to cruise better.

Looking at the chart I have:

Transmission Secondary Reduction Ratio
'82 is .973
'83 is .897

First Gear Ratio
'82 is 2.500
'83 is 2.642

All other ratios are the same between the 2 models. Obviously the big difference is the Secondary Reduction.

I do believe the '83 should run around 3450 RPM's at 60. Somewhere posted here is the RPM differences between the '80-'82 and the '83.
