While riding my CB goes to error and will not let you use it until you turn it off and back on. Then sometimes when you turn it back on it has lowered the volume to 0. Have any idea as to what is causing this.

That could be a bad connection. Have you checked the connectors under the saddle and the shelter?

A lot of CB errors on the 1800 can be cured by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting. Try that first.

I unpluged the connector under the saddle and used some electric grease on it to make sure had good connection, haven't checked under the shell.
