All,

The 85 GL1200I project I'm working on is going to need the pulse generator sensors replaced . When the starter solenoid shorted it took out the main wiring harness, starter solenoid, pulse generator wires.
Just to make sure I'm referring to the correct part, its located front right side, behind the timing belt heat shield, and just behind ( looking from the side) the right front exhaust pipe .

Looking at a down loaded Haynes manual, I don't see a actual section on the removal and replacement of the pulse generator sensors. Is this a engine in replacement ? Does anyone have a procedure Doc for this , thanks.

I can't think what you are looking at but the pulse generators are behind the timing belt covers at the crankshaft pulley.

He's looking at the burnt wires coming from where you said.

chances is if wire is burnt you might just have to replace wire solder wires back to senser and try that first

The wires are burnt all the way to the sensor, when it shorted it really did a number on wires.I'm guessing by the way the wires melted the Pulse Sensors were the ground, and the melting went back to the solenoid , through the main harness. I already have a Ebay set on the way, would just prefer to replace all together.

Info for removal can be found on page 5-3 in the Haynes Manual.

The hardest part of the job is routing the wires. I looks like the radiator is already removed.

I suspect you are looking at the wires to the gear position switch, not the pulse generators. The PGs are not grounded, the GP switch is a ground path.

I think you hit on the head, after looking at the PG wire trace, its in a different location then my burnt wire are located. Looking at the Gearshift Sensor location and wire routing in the Haynes manual Page 2-36, that would be it.

Question, is the GS just a neutral safety switch ? With out it can the bike still be started with the clutch in ? Thanks
