I had some new rubber put one of my spare rims and swap it in this weekend, however when I was cleaning up the garage I found a part lying around that I can't recall where it came from... Its a metal tube greased on the outside. Its roughly 4 inches long by 3/4 inch wide and about an eight of an inch thick. I pulled the tire and laid it down on some cardboard to pull the final drive and change over the gear in the rim. This is where I found the extra part so it must have fallen out of either the gear in the rim or the final drive. Can anyone help me identify this part?

Sorry for just the description, I don't have a camera anywhere in the house.

Seems like it would be a spacer between the wheel bearings. Just a guess.

Yup sounds like the spacer tube.
Fits into the final drive before you fit the wheel.

Ahh.... Sounds like I'll be pulling the final drive again then

Will there be any ill affects from tightening the axle nut without the spacer in? I torque it down to 65 ft-lbs

Did you ride it that way? Did you spin the wheel after torquing, to check it?

hopefully no damage but get that apart soon.Good thing you found it as it would have been a big prolemif you tried to ride it lie that pehaps you have damaged the bearings as they mus have taken all the clamping load directly on the rollers and races
