.

Changed the oil and put DELO in earlier this week. The weather has been wet so I did not get to riding until today.

I have been following this and other DELO posts and taken advise from the people who have used it before. I saw all the comments about better shifting and such and took them at face value. But I wondered how the DELO was doing such things, I am still wondering.

My 1500 SE has always shifted nice and I never had any complaints.

Went for a 150 km ride today and there is a difference in shifting. Its as slick as goose **** on green grass ! I can not believe the difference. The engine seems to run quieter also.

So does anyone have a theory why DELO makes the Wing shift better ?

I await the plethora of replies.

I can't confirm this but I hear it comes from the same place as Seafoam.

The trick with Seafoam and a noisey ticking lifter is to run it thru 2 or 3 oil changes. My tick did not go away until after two treatments. And yes, the Delo is good Goose $h!t.

I must be the oddball here because I decided to try the Delo in my GL1200 and found the shifting to be 'clunkier' and the engine seems noisier.

I have used Valvoline MC oil since I got the bike back in March of 2010 and it shifted smoothly and purred like the proverbial kitten.

I was going to trythe Deloin my GL1500 at the next oil change, but based on my experience with the GL1200, I think I will stickwith the Valvoline.

dejoyner. . . .

Drain and switch the DELO to the 1500 and try it.
At least you're not wasting a chance to try it.

Not to worry, Djoyner. I too was using Valvoline before. (20~50 Racing Oil)I toofind the 12 to be a little noisier with the Delo.

I don't think it's hurting anything, but I will go back to the Valvoline, next change.

Why ain't we ridin'?

Your not the oddball at all. I had the same issue with it, shifted hard and loud, could never get it back to neutral once it was warmed up and seemed to smoke more than normal on start ups.

I switched to Rotella this last oil change but it's starting to smoke now too. Just on start up, and not for long. It shifts a lot better and I can get it into Neutral a lot easier.

I have spoken to other 1200 owners who also had the same problem. Most use other, name brand type oils like Castrol, which I keep seeing come up and I have always used Castrol in my vehicles so I may try that next.

Thanks Dennis and jobe05, I was beginning to think that my GL1200 was 'not like the others'. At the next oil change, I'll be switching back to Valvoline 10w40.

Autozone occassionally has it on sale for half price ($2.00/qt) and I will stock up again.
