GL1200 clutch master cylinder

Rebuilt my clutch MC yesterday. The small return passage in the bottom was clogged with a sort of corrosion, not rust, and I had a hard time clearing it. I finally put a drop of CLR on it and let it soak for an hour. I was then able to take a thin stiff wire (welding torch tip cleaner) and clear it out.

Well done. I've seen some corroded up so bad they couldn't be saved.

Wish mine had been that easy. My sight glass turned to dust and fell out, shortly after I rebuilt it. It's actually plastic not glass and the AZ sun had completely disintegrated it. I had to take it all apart again, clean the casting really good, and filled in the hole with JB Weld. I ground it down nice and smooth, and so far, after a year and a half, it is still holding. Actually glad it was only the sight glass, the older models had plastic reservoirs (like on the rear) and the whole thing would disintegrate.

An American dime is perfectly the right size to use as a filler plug in the sight-glass hole. A little epoxy like JB Weld to seal it and you're done.
