Question Starting Problem - GL1200 Aspencade

My 1987 Aspencade suddenly gave up on the road the other day when I was taking it for its first ride of the season after a few months in the shed - the engine just cut out suddenly. It started again after about 15 mins, but cut out a few more times before I got it home. I took out a plug and checked the spark - it sparked and the bike started. Then I switched it off and tried to start it again - no go and no spark when I checked the plug. For the last few rides, the air compressor has worked intermittently and so have the tail lights. Are these problems likely to be connected or are they separate issues? All advice gratefully received before I start to take it apart!

Hi,

Would think it's a kind of problem with kill switch.

Regards,

Sergey

More likely the ignition switch. Try wiggling the key during the event.
PG's are always suspect, but it's quite a coincidence you're losing power in other areas as well.

Libraries are full of stuff I don\'t know.

Thanks - it started again today after being moved in the shed, then stopped, so a switch issue sounds logical. I'll have a good look at the switches and hopefully find something loose.

Cheers, Andrew

Problem found

Think I found the problem today. Removed the seat and top compartment and found the large connector coming from the fuse box was slightly loose. Plugged it in properly and everything works again - bike started, rear lights on and air compressor going again. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Cheers, Andrew
