GL1200 pulse gen

hi can some one exsplain the pulse gen i have a 86 1200a 1. how many 2,would one being defective kill the motor 3,why does it not still run on two cylinders if only one defective can u keep it simple for an old sod please thanks kevin

It seems that by experience and reading here if 1 of them fails it can still run on 2 cylinders but if the opposite one fails it will not, don't know which one does which.

ok so there is only the 2 units looking at the schematic dia they both feed out into the one plug so i presume when u buy a replacment they come as a set

Yes…. they come as a pair. According to the Honda microfiche:

30300-ML8-680 (replaces 30300-MG9-681) 001 $104.00 $77.79
available from Honda Direct Line.

Is the 1st gear the only problem with the transmission? Can you get it into all the other gears? If that's the case then you MIGHT, just might have a problem under the transmission cover…. where the oil filter fits. It might be a shift pawl or shift pin problem. But if it's the shift fork then you will have to split the engine cases. I can't tell you exactly which fork it is but it'll be the one that's burnt where it fits into the slider gear. You need to replace both the fork AND the slider gear it fits into.
If you have running boards it could be in the adjustment for the rods or maybe it's the angle the shift pedal is at…. it should be parallel with the ground.

I bought a pair of GL1500 Pulse generators as they are a better part that is more durable, that can stand heat much better.

The GL1500 PG's would be a upgrade, but would need some modifying to fit them to a 4cylinder Oldwing.

I bought mine on Ebay for $15.00 for the pair, from a 1992' GL1500
