Gl1200 removing fuel tank

I need to remove the fuel tank to clean out rust on my 84 interstate. Do i need to remove the fuel guage sender in the fuel tank and how is it removed

I would remove it. It'll make it easier to clean the tank. Its really easy. There's a metal ring on top of the tank that holds the sender in place. Just lube this up, then tap it anti clockways until it pops up. Then lift the sender up, out of the tank. You might want to grease the rubber gasket slightly for ease of re fitting

This cleaning process you don't have to remove the tank. Much easier and works great.

That is a good question for him. The absolute EASIEST part of this process would be removing the fuel gauge sensor.

removing tank

Are there any threads on removing tank. I want to use the apple cider vinegar method so tank removal best.
