FI (Fault Indicator) dash light on GL1800

Good evening all

Just got my first goldwing (1800) 2001 model. It really is an impressive machine. I didnít actually expect it to be this good. Riding a Kawasaki VL1500 cruiser till now and didnít expect there to be much difference, but the goldwing is in fact like nothing else that Iíve ridden.

The thing is in the space of two weeks the Fi light has come on twice. Every time switching the ignition off and turning it back on remedied the problem. So wondering if this is normal?

Another question that was puzzling me is the adjustable suspension does it become softer when the setting is lower. Or does putting it higher compensate for having more weight on the bike or something. Anyway thatís just a minor thing it was the fuel injection that was concerning me.

The FI lamp is a fault indicator, and should come on with the key for a bulb-check, and then should NOT routinely come on...

As you see the light next time, pull over somewhere safe leaving the bike running, place the bike into neutral and then put the side-stand down... Watch the FI lamp -- it should begin blinking-out a code as a sequence of LONG and SHORT flashes...

The FI lamp's flash-pattern will identify why the FI lamp came on, and help to get to the root of the issue.

Here's a link to one of many posts on FI codes. https://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/...-mil-code.html

Thank you, looking through posts now. Just like in one of them, my speedo did stick once too. Although not at the same time as the light coming on.

As above, the FI light flashes fault codes, 1 long flash =10 and a short flash = 1. As in 1 long flash and 3 short ones gives the fault code 13, so look on the code fault list to see what is faulty. As for the air suspension yep it firms up the higher up the scale you go. You can set memory settings for solo or single riding. The FI light should come on and go out before start up, but not after that.

Too old to die young!!

OK.

Finally got it to come on again.

When Iím using the bike every day it never comes on. So I let it stand for a few days and almost as soon as I took it on the motorway it lit up. Well I pulled over and it flashed 5 times.

At first I thought they were equally long flashes, but after looking at the thread that lists all the flashes there were no 5 short or long flashes. So it appears that it was 4 long and 1 short.

And as it says for 41 the engine does appear to be operating normally.
I could be wrong here, but it seems as if the light comes on when Iím going along the motorway at 70mph and then let of the throttle a little and slow down.

There is no room for guess work, it sounds as if you were unsure what you saw with the flashing and only after looking at the codes did you conclude it must be this? Do it again until you are positive of the results.

Pull your phone out and record it for a less stressful moment of review than on the side of busy road.

If it is code 41 that indicates a problem in the gear position circuit, which could take a whole lot of diagnosing. Have you tried the cruise control when the F1 light is on? And does the OD light work?

With no God over the state, the state then becomes not the defender of liberty but the definer of liberty.

Dave,

Do the codes repeat and if so how many times and how much of a pause or is it a one shot?
