Does it stop here? or is there an Ultimate Bike you are working towards?

You certainly have the Wing background after 2, 1500 resto and iirc resto-mod to current technology... suspension wise

Those should go quick on the sale- you did all the repairs right = through consultations on here. The Progressives were worth it eh~
They helped, but I have to sell both 1500's, my spare dual sport and my project FZR1000 still to finance this one. I'm already talking about this being a 'keeper', though - I think this is 'the one' (although I have said that before, but maybe less confidently). It's motorcycle #32 (between me and my son, but mostly me) in the last 3 years. I still have a little clean up work on the Black 97 1500 - a few trims pieces were missing, plus the previous owner managed to somehow crack the dash when taking it off, so I have another dash coming, so that one won't go up for sale for a few weeks, when I'm finished cleaning/fixing it up.

Bikes I've owned since June, 2013:
Since sold:11 CBR250R, 89 ZG1000, 92 Ninja 500, 85 V45 Magna, 84 DT200, 82 Virago 750, 92 Virago 1100, 04 Kawasaki ZZR250, 07 Vstrom 650 ABS, 88 GL1500, 14 Ninja 300, 86 V65 Magna, 96 VLX600, 08 WR250X, 09 KLX250S, 87 FZR1000, 14 Ninja 650, plus some more...
Current rides:
2010 Husqvarna TE250
2015 Kawasaki Ninja 650
2008 GL1800 with bagger kit
1997 GL1500SE

One more question on the back rest - my wife needs 'room' on the back seat (she's not tiny) - are there any backrests that would allow more room on the passenger seat? For example, on the 1500 I have a rider backrest (standard outside-mounted like this:http://cyclemax.com/inc/sdetail/gl1500_backrest/126/319). With the backrest installed, she didn't have enough room (I had even moved the trunk back 1.5"). So, when riding with her, I removed the backrest. It would be handy to have a backrest when riding with her, but don't want to make it so she's crammed in back there. The Utopia 'looks' like it can be adjusted forward so very little of it is using any space on the passenger portion of the seat. However, the outside-mounted (and cheaper) backrests look like they may be adjustable to use even less of the passenger space (other than the bars sticking into the passenger's thighs.)??

Dang computer done gone an ate my lengthy prose~ starting over and condensing

Seat heaters are made like the electric blanket for your bed. Just a wire ran up and down with a temp over-limit switch.
Make sure that limit sensor works!

ck makers website for correct operation, it may say use High for 5 minutes then Low and leave it alone the rest of the ride.
It will cycle on and off when temp drops slightly = keeping it at a set level to your brain

Left on Hi- the wires,,well... thin wires with 10-amps for several = a lot of heat in the wire--heat melts insulating cover of wire = arcing...
then the real F word... FIRE!

BUT I could be wrong about some or all of this, Take any of my advice with a minimum 4 grains of salt

Not all 1800s came with CB but I believe all were wired for one, I bought a GL2way CB for my 01 and this unit allowed me to run my Garmin GPS through it
The CB is in the trunk and have my MP3 player sitting on top in the hidden compartment
