1500 Compression

Since I have the carbs. off, I decided to do a compression test on the engine to see how good it is on a 20,000 mile goldwing trike. The good news is that all 6 cylinders were within 2 to 3 pounds of each other. The bad news( I hope I'm wrong) is that all were reading 100 lbs. Isn't that awful low? I thought they would be up around 200 lbs. This was with like I said the carbs. off so the throttles were wide open and the battery was fully charged and all plugs out. So why is it so low? Hopefully you will make me feel good and tell me everything is OK. Thanks

Worked on the "big rigs" for 45 years now just riding my Wing whenever I can. Gets cold in Wisconsin.

Unfortunately the answer is yes and I know that it should be warmed up, but still isn't 100 lbs. low even for a cold engine?

Nope, and it might not even be as much that it is cold but no oil on the cylinders add to it. I think not to worry.

The only thing to worry about on a cold compression test is a single cylinder that comes to life when warm, or only when oil soaked. 100+ on all should result in some pretty good numbers warm. I've hit lower numbers on cold small blocks. Also, I hope that wasn't with a Harbor Freight rig. Pretty much destroy 50% of those taking them out of the plastic case.

OK thanks for the info. and the calming feeling that I now have. As long as 100 lbs. is fine on a cold engine, I can move on to my next problem. Stay tuned, and thanks again. Randy
