But the transmission gearing is different. 1200 engines will also fit the 1100 frame.

Will this pose any issues when installing a new engine in my 83 Interstate?

Will not pose a prob, just slightly different gearing is all. If you install 1200 in the 1100 frame the best bet would be to use an 84 1200 engine, I know because I have done that already, 85 and newer have the ignition is on front of engine and 84 is on rear like the 1100's

The 80-81s are somewhat lower geared, the 82 is closer but still a little lower than the 83.

There is a gear position sensor for the neutral light only on the Interstate, in it's place on the Aspencade motor is a gear position sensor for all the gears, not just neutral.

There is that difference in the two '83 motors.

The 83 interstate has an OD (5th gear) light also.

Forgot about that purple light. It has been a while since I have ridden my '83.

I doubt I ever will, I gotta get rid of all 4 of my GL1100's sitting around my old house. My '97 is my bike from here on out.
