1800 neutral light, reverse issues etc etc etc!

Hi all, new UK member here, I've had a nice 1500 before so been a lurker for a long time, now I've got myself an 2001 1800 project that has been stood outside for about 2 years so am needing help!

I've read most of the old posts regarding these issues but I'm still a bit stuck!

I got the bike started and going OK and took it for its UK mot, which it failed on sticky brakes and a throttle issue.

I have just sorted these last night and was going to take it for a ride, but no neutral light and won't start, just a faint tick noise.
Reverse never worked(that's a future problem) and the light flicked on and off when the button was pressed.

Now I've looked and it's blowing fuses, so I've fitted a fuse and not touched reverse, no flashing R but still no neutral light.

It won't start with the stand up, in gear and clutch in.

I've checked the micro switch and tried different ways but nothing.

The OD light comes on when I go through the gears.

I've tried grounding the reverse switch on the right side but still nothing(not sure I'm doing it right)

I've took the front spoiler off and had a look, poke and spray but not sure what I'm doing in there!

All the nuts and bolts are rusty and need work to get them off so things like taking the pannier off is difficult and time consuming! I'm not scared to give things a go but I'm a bit blind as to what to do, and I also don't have a manual!

Any help would be greatly appreciated..... In simple terms ?

Thanks
Matt

Possible the reverse switch is dirty, causing both the starting and reverse problems.

Check Dave's suggestion first.

Power at the kill switch? If not check the 10 amp start/kill switch fuse.

Dumb question. Is the kill switch on?

5 amp reverse fuse?

5 amp start/reverse fuse?

Worked on the "big rigs" for 45 years now just riding my Wing whenever I can. Gets cold in Wisconsin.

The kill switch I think is fine, I have found one blown fuse and assumed that was part of the reverse issue, I'll double check tomorrow.
How do I check if the reverse switch is dirty?

Recheck fuse #10, best just replace it. Try pushing the reverse switch in and out with the key on and see if the neutral light ever comes on.
