I had planned to do that with my '83 GL1100. I found a water pump housing and crossover tube section from a GL1200 LTD that those pieces looked like they would fit, and each piece provide a water nipple to run heated radiator water through a manifold.

For the manifold, I planned to just run some copper tubing underneath the manifold to heat up the main chamber.

But then I got my GL1500, and pretty much quit riding the 1100 altogether.

Just got my 1500 this spring, but still drive the '80 GL1100 STD enough that she doesn't feel all that neglected. The 1100 runs good enough (29 MPG pulling camper trailer 3000 miles cross country at 80 MPH in that horrible 2012 heat!) that I've never considered the single carb option... Now she's got a couple cylinders start cutting out around 5000 RPM if I wide-open the throttle on hard accel (prolly sticking slides) but otherwise at 101K miles she still runs like a dream and Avg 39MPG if I don't mash the throttle.... I haven't been inside the carbs since I put her on the road in 2005.. Cleanout is overdue...... With same driving habits on the 1500 she Avg 33 MPG. But I love the 1500!

But I digress - Seems you had a good plan to warm the manifold on your 1100. I've read a lot of posts about how single carb on a manifold wasn't working out well, and thinking a heated manifold would help out volumes.....
