I would concur with that statement, sadly they are no longer in production.

those were the tires on "Ole Red", my '94SE that was bought out by Penske back in Jan 2008.

Denis Kirk has been my go-to ever since HDL was bought out. Well, Tire Rack for the rear on the 1800.

Dennis Kirk didn't have much for the rear of the 1500. I mean one or two, not so great, choices.

Why ain't we ridin'?

thanks guys, i noticed the Elite 3 are not longer in production, i had them on my gl1200 and then on the valkyrie and i was pleased with the service they provided. back in the day everyone loved the Elite 3 so i followed their advice..

About the shinko tires. i've heard bad reviews from a lot of people, they even sell that brand here in Mexico. for what i've heard they are very slippery on wet surfaces so watch out when it rains. When it is about tires im not usually cheap. just been disconnected from the motorcycle world for some time that i dont know if there are newer websited that have better prices.

im probably going for the E4 route. ill do some research on the avons

regarding mileage which one gives out more miles?

I bought my 1500 last summer and rode it home in storms, lots and lots of rain, it has E-3s on it. I heard bad things and some positive, I rode it 300 miles in the rain on Interstate highway and had no problem with them at all

I also just levered a set of Shinko 777HD blackwalls on my new to me 85 1200. I would be more than happy to get those miles and although I haven't really given them a real ride yet (don't want to venture too far from home til I get those original belts changed...), handling and initial feel seem very good to me. Course I'm comparing them to the Elite 2 and 3 that were on there, dated 2000 and 2008, they were treacherous.

Keep a CLOSE watch on the Shinkos. I had a front develop 5 big blisters about 15 miles into my 20 mile ride home from work on my 1800. Had less than 5000 miles on them, daily pressure check, mostly one-up riding. They do well for sport bike tires, but the 1800 was just too heavy for their technology I guess. They quit making them for the GL1800 as far as I know.

Thank you for your advice, your blistered Shinkos were 777HD's? The stock sized tires I selected for my 1200 are each load rated higher than the factory requirements at 77 front and 80 rear so I'm pretty confident in their ability to support the GL. Perhaps you had a bad one, I've run Shinkos before on my Buell with my only complaints being profile and cold tire grip at the extreme edges.

Keeping close watch on your tires is always a good practice anyway, over the years I've had issues such as premature cracking of the sidewalls or in the tread, including "premium" brands, and always limited to individual tires.
