I have this Aspencade and the mute/tune box and talk box are secured by a bolt going going from the bottom. The bolt has come loose and now resides inside the area of the where the bright, on/off mute, and signal case are.
I see there is a screw underneath to split the housing. What I don't know is, if I take out the two screws is there a mess of other items that I will deal with.
Anyway, anyone who has had this issue and advise, would appreciate it.
Not sure what you are describing with the bolt, but there is nothing in the switch housing that will fall out if you open it up. (With the caveat that there's no guarantee stuff hasn't been altered in the last 18 years.)
You may have to loosen some switches inside the housing to get a bolt out. If you don't try to take the switches themselves apart, you'll be fine.
You should be able to remove the screw(s) from the bottom of that "clam-shell" as in the pic from Erdeniz, on the upper half, you'll see a JIS head screw that goes up, and probably through the first box, then probably screws into the second box. Just be careful spreading the clam-shell apart and you shouldn't lose anything.
Great help! I'm going to take it apart tomorrow and fix the screw.
Having a hard time making my mind up. Have the 2000 wing, 2012 wing, and a BMW R1200GS.
Funny, the one I enjoy the most is the 2000. Has 51K miles on it. Bought it from the original owner about 5 years ago...he was 80 and it was his baby. Had every maintenance and original paper work. If I knew where I could take it and have somebody go through it and replace all the rubber i.e. hoses, tires, and and anything else that has deteriorated, I might keep it and get rid of the other 2. Just turned 68 and beginning to wonder how much longer I will be able to ride.
Thanks...need to determine what "first things first" are. Palm Springs area is a joke for any type of motorcycle support...not their thing. Probably need to go to San Diego if I want to proceed.
Seriously considering selling the 2012 and the BMW.
Here is sa suggestion, hook up with a local Gold Wing association and see if they can make a recommendation as to a place to have work done.
I've had the best luck by contacting GWRRA folks. In California, there are lots of chapters. Here is a link to the California sites: http://gwrra-ca.org/california-chapters
Check out their sponsors and or look through their newsletters.
Looks like there is a shop in Highland and one in Redlands. Looks like they both sponsor Gold Wing Chapters.
As we all know, word of mouth is probably the best way to find out about different shops and their abilities and or customer service. All it takes is a phone call or two.
