Charging Problems GL1200

My 1986 GL1200 Interstate refuses to charge and puzzled as to why.
I've checked the usual,fuses,earths,connectors,battery etc.
Spent countless hours working outside in rain and snow trying to trace the fault.
Discovered the generator wires had overheated at some point in the past and had fused together.I repaired this but had no effect on the charging.
Yesterday I discovered that the connector to the regulator/rectifier had also overheated and fused together.Eventually managed to separate it.Cleaned and repaired the damaged terminals.
Started the bike, and success the the bike was registering 14.7 V at both the fuse box and battery.
I was elated until today.Decided to double check before putting the bike back together and it is once again refusing to charge.
The bike is running purely on the power of the battery. If you isolate it from the battery it just cuts out.
Any fresh ideas appreciated that doesn't involve replacing the generator,as I'm aware this is worst case scenario, but want to explore all other ideas first,as it's a big job on the 1200's and I have trip planned to Greece from the UK end of this month.

Their 'fault finding' flowchart is quite good.

I've had stator connectors on all 3 'stator' bikes overheat and melt the plastic. I've replaced them all with Anderson Powerpole connectors. Pics and description here:https://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=67077

Good luck

You're on the right path and it sounds like you've repaired the stator and the regulator connectors, Hopefully by hardwiring/soldering them?? Any way, next is checking the starter solenoid connector. There is 2 red, red/white wires at the front of the connector. Those are the main power feed into the dogbone fuse that's located inside a cover on the front of the solenoid. What I did with mine was snip the 2 red wires, (leave the 2 at the rear alone, they energize the solenoid), and solder an 30amp inline fuse to them and crimped/soldered a round end connector on to install on the hot side of the solenoid. Here's a pic..
