Gl 1500 is that a vacuum leak situation.

Am I dealing with a vacuum leak?


A freind of mine and I are trying to find trouble on his 1999 gl1500 160,000 Km. Idle weird like a cylinder missing and pouff pouff in the exhaust like the missing cylinder are kicking on at times or doing after fire. if we rev it up itís the same. Plus very hard to start on long parking pťriode. On first throttle snap itís not responding good but second and other are better . If I keep it at 2000 rpm itís the same BUT we can hear the missing cylinder kicking on the odd times. Vacuum on left side is a little lower than right and if I unplug each spark plug right side as a major difference left side minor difference in rpm a sound of motor running.
I did spray brake cleaner on all hose I could see but no change.

Ps when the cylinder kicks in the engine sounds very good and normal thatís why I did not do compression test plus my gage hose is broken.

Check and work Dunn

Timming belts replaced
Replace Carbs assy with a set of used old ones where leaking external at gasket and at accel pump leaking
Checked petcock vaccum good
Spark plug replaced and wires resistance of coil secondary checked
Disconnected ECM and tested resistance of coil primary
Cooling sensor
Pulse generator
All normal

Carb sync dunn

All the work Dunn did not improve anything.

My question am I at the point that I have to duck in under carb for vacuum leak yuck.

Is there more tests

Sounds like a bad leaking valve or maybe a head gasket to me.

I'd pull the carb to inspect the Vacuum lines (especially the famous one with the 90-deg bend, that controls Ignition Advance), and also verify that that the Accelerator Pump is working.

While doing carb sync I noticed that left was a bit lower than right but it would stabilize.

I took the carb off ant the rubber mat and so far only the two top vacuum line numbred 1 and 3 with sharp 90deg turn where collapsing in the elbow but no leaks

> The tubes from the carb sync tool are likely Leaking, where you connect them to the exhaust manifold... This happened on mine; I fixed it by simply putting a Hose Clamp on the lines.. and in-fact could Only get the carbs to balance after fixing this leak in the tool setup.

> Sounds like you found a big problem right there! That 90-deg line should not be collapsed at all... If it is, then the ignition advance is getting a bad vacuum-signal from the engine.

I found a loose line on left side and the two collapsed line in the elbow. I decided to reinstall carbs and test and he bike never started .

Diagnostic = fuel pump dead. Good grnd good batt Volt on terminal but no more fuel supply.

Could that have been the problem on day one hummmmmmmmm.

Tomorrow I will install a good used pump and test

MTF .

Well replaced the collapsed hose put in new filter and good used pump

Runs way better

Next step is to run all that old fuel that has Seafoam .

Many hanks for the comments those two 90 deg hose collapsed really made a difference.
