And what size windshield does it have on it?
IMO, the windshield is the biggest aggravation on MPG.
I have used a Tulsa Tall on two gl1500s, = 33 mpg
also had one on my current gl1800 = 33-34 mpg running 70 to 75 mph.
Several of us have noted, that if we forget to shift into 5th gear, we can just about empty a tank of gas running in 4th gear at 70 mph. I have done it, it happens.
But, guess what? when you fill up, it takes almost exactly the same amount of fuel.
yes, higher rpm, but the same load, nets the same fuel burned.
Now I have a Madstad windshield which I can drop down to only about 8 inches high, whoa!!! 38-40 mpg??? yup.
Did you get any service records with the bike? Plugs might need to be changed. And as stated earlier, your right wrist and size of the windshield has a lot to do with it also. I always got 40 + on my 02 and 08 Wing.
Bigger windshields will kill mileage of a vehicle that already has the aerodynamics of a barn door, but to say a EFI GL-1800 gets worse than an older carbed GL-1500 … just wow.
