I had a great time, both on the ride there/back and while at the campground. It was great to meet Mark, John, Greg, Henry and Jim. Looking forward to more events like this.

So, isn't anybody going offer a synopsis of the meet? Who was there? Did anybody drop their bike? How did the day rides go?
We want details.

Why ain't we ridin'?

I almost dropped my bike hard on a tar snake on the way home, does that count?

We had Mark (longryder110), Rick (rgmr250), Jim (luddy), Henry (Hanko), Greg (NaturalyGW) and myself. Greg and I got there on Wednesday and rode to McCall on Thursday after breakfast in Cambridge. Mark arrived Thursday sometime and was at the camp when we got back. We rode back to Cambridge on Friday morning with Mark for breakfast and when we got back to camp Rick & Henry had arrived. Jim arrived soon after. Greg and I were wanting to ride some more so we went down to the Hell's Canyon dam, a great ride of only about 22 miles each direction but a beautiful windy river road down into the canyon. After we returned we all went to Halfway for dinner at the local bar/restaurant. Saturday morning Greg and I decided to head towards home and make it a two day return instead of doing the whole 460+ miles in one ride like we did coming down and we rode over FS39 to Joseph and beyond and took scenic route to Pasco where we spent the night with my brother and his Mrs., and then over Chinook pass to home on Sunday. We met up with Henry a couple of times on the way home, both on FS39 and on Chinook pass. He was riding his bike and being followed by his Mrs. and her sister in their camper, so he didn't stay with us long.

I really enjoyed meeting Mark and Rick and hanging with them a bit, as well as seeing Jim and Henry again. I hope all had a good time and enjoyed the area. We tentatively decided on the Bend area for next year.

John

I had a great time meeting up with old friends and making new ones. I wish I could have stuck around but I had to head off so I could attend the 25th anniversary celebration of the company I work for. I will be the first person in the company to have 25 years in come March 1st.

Rick I seriously think you should change your forum name to "Lick Clean", that is a great story that you should share with everyone here!!

It would have made me feel better if you'd said what a drag it was.
Smoke filled air, bad weather, deteriorating campground, all the roads were torn up and under construction and a cop with radar on every corner. That's what I was hoping for.

I'm looking forward to the next time we can all get together. Sunday was a bit of a 'ghost town' - Mark was up and gone at O-Dark thirty, Jim shortly after - John and Greg had left Saturday. I didn't want to leave too early - as it was, I got to Yakima at 2PM - luckily the hotel room was ready and I was able to check in.I had a long conversation (maybe a little longer than I wanted) with the two guys who stayed Saturday night in the spot that John and Greg were previously in. A bit of an odd couple of guys, but friendly enough.

Re "Lick Clean" - I tell a story to people to remember my name, as I'm pretty bad at remembering names, and figure others likely are as well. I was driving to Jasper once, years ago, and stopped in a town called Valemount, BC to stay at a motel. The nice Asian lady at the front desk (I think she was the owner of the motel) just couldn't pronounce my name (Rick Green) - the closest she could get was Lick Clean. So, I was Mr Lick Clean for the night. So, I tell that story to people I meet and find that they generally have an easy time remembering my name...

Sunday morning, there was a distinct smoke smell in the air, and a little bit windy. Leaving Yakima Monday morning, it was much the same, but much colder, particularly through the pass on I90 - I just brought hot weather gear, plus rain gear just in case, so I popped the rain gear on to take the chill off.

Now, does that make you feel any better? I have to say, though, that it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip - the ride, the hotel in Yakima, the campground and the people. My first 'long' trip on a Goldwing (well, on a motorcycle) - longest previously was an overnight/weekend trip. The Goldwing performed great (although still having a little bit of slow speed wobble and a bit of head shake when hitting bumps on the highway, so I'll re-torque those head bearings - I replaced them last month, probably need a re-torquing - maybe one of the races didn't seat fully and after some riding it seated fully and now needs proper torquing.)

I've ridden across and back the U S four time now, twice with a buddy and twice alone. Well me and my buddy get along ok, we still have to split up once or twice on a trip, we need our space. I've ridden from Spotsylvania, Va. to the Artic Circle, Alaska, and back. I enjoy traveling alone, but when I'm on some of the back roads or places I probably shouldn't be in, I get to thinking about all the different things that could go wrong. It has happened several times, as most of you know I generally don't have a phone on me, just my gps and maps. I've wrecked too many times, some my fault some not. I have to say, " I like the lone ride ". I'm a firm believer, that "The Man" upstairs has your life already planned out, whether you stay on the side or get into the game, when it's time to go, it's going to happen. With that said, I have to tell you, that ridding a bike for me has been one of the best things for me in older years of life, not that family or friends has taken second, it's just that riding down the road, exploring, not really knowing what's around the corner has made life more exciting, sometimes rounding the corner and making it rounder than it should be, has made my blood pressure jump maybe 100 points at times. I've met some great and caring people on the road and some not so great, but all in all, it's been fun and seeing the U S of A a whole lot different. When I was a lot younger, I traveled quite a bit with my cars, had a bike but it wasn't or I don't think it would have been able to make the trips that I have. Smelling the road on a bike is different, just saying.............enjoy
