Rodent and I are looking at visiting Scotland this next year and we're looking for suggestions on how we can make this trip more affordable. What we're looking for is ideas of which airport to fly into, car rentals, economical places to stay and white time of year is best, but also sites to see. We've been told things like fly into England and rent a car to drive north.

We are both of Scottish heritage, me from Caithness and her from Enbo/Moray Firth area and would like to see as much as we can while there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi m8,

I'm from Inverness

To be honest you will probably get cheaper airfares by flying into an English airport although you could fly to Glasgow or Edinburgh. Pick up a hire car then and drive north.

A trip down Loch Ness either driving or by the Jacobite Cruses is a must as well as a road trip up to Ullapool and along the west coast. Absolutely beautiful scenery m8.

Give me a shout nearer the time m8 and I'll put you in touch with some sites and info.

The better time to come over here is around june to august.Petrol just now is around £1.05 a litre so take that into account in a big way if you are planning driving a lot of miles on your trip over.

Hope this help m8.

I've just checked the weather forecast, you'd best bring a snorkel and flippers as well.
