Last night, I was a little warm, fidgety, trouble sleeping.....

Morning arrived and still not much better. Thermostat setting is 78*F but the thermometer was shouting 85*

Checked all the power wiring, 240 vac right up to the compressor unit. But no action going on inside the box.

Pulled the covers and the power wires disappear into a solid state circuit board. End of road for me.

Called my home warranty folks.....earliest service call is noon tomorrow.

Sure glad its not too warm right now. Yesterday was only 108.6*F

101.1 is down right chilly....

I spent a 4 day stint over the 4th of July in Phoenix with my swamp cooler gone out.

Didn't have no air conditioning like you rich guys have.

Damn near died that weekend.

So sorry to hear this, John! I think I would simply melt away if my air con ever went out for an extended period. Be sure to keep hydrated, please....

Some of you might remember that I had my heat pump die on me last winter.

I ended up putting in a new high effiency unit.

I don't know if it really saves much money, it's hard to compare because it's only been a few months and how do you compare if this April was warmer or colder than last April, and so on.

But I did get my tax credit.

The guy offered me a base model for $3800 in my size. I think it was 13 seer, but I'm not sure anymore. But I asked about the 15 seer so I could get the tax credit. It came to $5050 with a 10 year parts and labor warranty. I got $1500 back on my taxes, so it came to $3550. Less expensive than the base model. So if I save any money on my electric bill, (I thinkI am,but I can't prove it yet) then I come out way ahead.

Good luck on yours, I hope it turns out to be an easy (read that as low cost) repair, and the guy has the parts he needs right on the truck.

Update on my unit.

Home warranty cost me $60.00 deductible.

Dead fan motor and capacitor bank in the outside compressor unit.

Lucked out, all parts on service truck. Guy was gone in 45 minutes.

All is well, house is cool again.

skated by this time.....

Holy Moses John!!! I'd have already shot myself or something to get in an air conditioned place, even if it was a hospital!!!LOL I had an old evap cooler, too. They are useless in Az.! I used to run the lawn sprinkler on the cooler, to "pre-cool" the desert air before it went into the cooler!!!LOL Nope, don't miss it one bit! jimsjinx

Not too many basement homes around here in the desert. Some of the upper nether region folks can afford them, but not in my salary range.

Back in Oklahoma where I grew up, quite a few basement homes and it was nice to go down there in the summer and relish the cool dampness.

I can remember many years of trying to sleep in the summer stifling heat of upper 90 degree wx along with humidity indexes of 40% or more. Dad would never buy an a/c unit, "they cost too much". So mom installed a window unit that was given to her by dad's sister. The sister worked for an a/c repair shop and it was a pull out. But it worked for another 20 years after that.
