must be a dull night here in River City....
twiddling my thumbs...

anyway I wanted to restart my computer after having removed a bunch of junk that was cluttering things up.

I have hated the mousey way you have to click, choose, click, choose, click, "are you sure?" click 'yes'

so, I decided to make a shortcut that would restart my computer "right now brudder!"

here is how, at least one way.....

Open Windows Explorer and goto c:windowssystem32shutdown.exe

right click and create a shortcut. Now drag that shortcut to the desktop.

Right click on the desktop icon and choose Properties.

in the top line you will see

C:WindowsSystem32shutdown.exe

change that line so it looks like this:

C:WindowsSystem32shutdown.exe /r /t 05

that '05' at the end is how many seconds you want it to wait before it actually shuts down and restarts.

Make it '01' and it will shut down "Right Now Jose"

Must be something in the air tonight, anyway, now I can restart this thing lickety split.....

Great idea. Years ago I found a free program online that did that same thing. Wish I could find it again.

Oh, you can make that little trick do a lot more than just restart.

open the RUN command line and enter CMD
that will open the Command window.

now type shutdown.exe /?

That will give you a huge list of options to play with.

Want it to shut down in 1 second?
You can force it to shut down w/o saving any info at all,
just Bam! it is off....

Windows may look like a GUI environment, but it still runs underneath all the glitter in a command environment.

Lots of power if you want to get right down to the nitty gritty.
