This is just a rant.
My Daughter and I where talking about some old songs and putting them on You Tube and commercials keep coming up. I know it's not a big deal but it just Bugs me and it doesn't make me want to buy their product.
Thanks Steve for keeping this a commercial free zone!

It is the wonderful donations of members on this forum that keep it an ad free zone.

I never met a Goldwing I did not like.

I don\'t care what you ride, just ride.

I used to take the no advertisements on this forum for granted, but now I appreciate it. Thanks.

Google anything now and the paid advertisement sites float to the top of the list. We have to live with it.

That's what I love best about this site. No ads. I don't mind the occasional ad that appears on some of the other sites, but like Kim mentioned, I hate that now every time you click on videos you get stuck watching the commercials. It's happening on youtube and everywhere else.

I agree about it being so nice here on account that Steve manages to keep this site, Ad free!

There is another member here who has his own Goldwing based site and although informative, I rarely visit it because of all the ads on it.

The ad companies found a way to mess up the scenery with billboards, they mess up the television shows with advertisements every few minutes so it only stands to reason they think it is OK to ruin the Internet by force feeding us their Madison Avenue tripe.

You can control the adverts to a large degree (although not effective on YouTube) with an addon called "NoScript"

I have that installed with Firefox and those ads will not show up unless you give them permission to do so.

It is even better than "AdBlock" because it relies on the website name/IP. If that web domain has not received your permission to display on your screen, nothing from that website will show up on your screen.

There is always a caveat for this kind of thing.
Some websites you want to use, you have to be patient and use the options to allow:

1) all on this page to run permanently
2) all on this page to run temporarily
3) select ONLY the ones you want to run temporarily or permanently

for me, it is really worth the hassle because like a little puppy, once it has been trained, it is great to have.

There is a time or two that I will simply bring up IE8 and let that run in swaddling clothes. Whatever vermin is out there will run and play at will.

If you are in business you have to advertise. It is a fact that the more you advertise the more customers you have coming thru the door. You could be selling junk and still make profit. Look at Harbor Freight. Much of their stuff is not far above junk but they advertise heavily and people keep coming. Buy something once from them and you will receive flyers forever. Here we get multiples of each one. Has to amount to a tree a month.

If you do not advertise and your competitor does he wins. So if you spend $100 you force him to have to spend $200 to achieve his advertising goals.

Each time someones ad pops up, they pay a minute amount. If someone reads that ad then the amount paid by the advertiser is higher. That is why the people that started Google, Yahoo, and all of those internet based start up companies scored those billion dollar buy outs.

Life is a collection of stories we old people tell and hope a few will listen and carry them into the future.

There is a story to everything we have, everyone we have met and everything we have done or we will do or dream about doing.

We sometimes ride to forget, but hopefully we never forget to ride.

I agree. Youtube could never survive without being paid. Millions of videos taking up God only knows how many millions of terabytes of servers and bandwidth each year has to be paid for by someone.
But they can go overboard with it at times, and Youtube are very stingy with what they pay video owners for allowing advertisements to be put on their videos.
