Only Gets Worse in Fort McMurray Alberta

This morning the fires are still burning and extending their reach. The fire command centre has been moved three times account the fire moving in on it.

Over 90,000 have evacuated from the area both South and North on the only highway through Fort McMurray.

That is not good, I have been seeing some of that on Google News

is there any good outlook for this yet?

and how badly is this going to impact the town and major public services?
hospitals, public safety buildings, etc?

I just modified my Google News to monitor the fire:

The entire city of Fort McMurray, Alta. is under a mandatory evacuation order as an out-of-control wildfire rips through the area.

Alberta wildfire: Emergency declared in Fort McMurray

BBC News - ‎7 hours ago‎

A state of emergency has been declared in the province of Alberta in Canada after a wildfire forced all 88,000 residents of Fort McMurray to flee. Officials say the fast-moving blaze could destroy much of the city. The fire, which broke out on Sunday ...

I sure feel sorry for those folks up there.

Hospital and town office safe for now. Water supply has been protected and fire departments from all over Alberta have arrived at Fort Mac. The military are also on the ground as support to the wild land fire fighters and city fire fighters.

With all of this there have been only two fatalities in a collision out on the highway between a semi and a SUV.

In some of the photos it looks like a A-Bomb was dropped there.

Three members of our family have each lost their homes and everything they own... cloths, vehicles, MCs, 4 wheelers etc.

One lost their two dogs as they were not allowed to go back to their home to get them. They left for work that morning and the winds changed and they could not get back in time.

It's a horrible situation there.

Mr Magic Fingers

so sorry to hear about your family's losses....
even with good insurance, it is going to be a hard row to hoe trying to recover from all of that.

Were all so very thankful that everone has gotten out alive. That sounds so cliché but...

...but my brother in law literally drove through a wall of fire to leave the premise of his work after shutting things down. The fire burst across the road in a mini tornado. It peeled the paint off the truck and the truck started to lose power. He figured that it was starving for air. He is really shaken up. When they got about 2 km away they could see the compound where he was. Some of the smaller sheds were on fire.

He lost everything (including his job) but his family and realizes he is a very wealthy man!

That is way too close an experience..... if that truck had stalled out as he was trying to leave the compound, you would be telling us a far sadder tale.

Is there anything the forum can do to help them?

That's about it. We have a lot of people from Atlantic Canada that work out there. A tremendous amount actually.

As for our family, they are all coming home when they can get flights. They can deal with insurances from here. Whats left of Fort Mac will not be open for a while.
