"Linux Mint" - the Cinnamon release, 64 bit is what I have on my laptop.

I chose that distribution because of its' Windows Like desktop and GUI.

I don't care to ever get acquainted with the under pinnings of Linux like I know Windows7 and prior versions.

Linux is still an abomination though when it comes to downloading an app and trying to install it, it just does not happen "automatically" unless the Package Manager can find it on their list. Just too much BS to go thru with Linux to make it work right.

It is still not ready for "everybody to use".... Mint Cinnamon was the closest thing I could find that was acceptable to me.

Neighbors laptop automatically installed W/10 and now 3 of the games they like to play don't work anymore which is normal i found out. Simple games of Hearts, Freecell and Chess. The laptop was slow before and now it is really slow.

I turned off the auto install in that annoying window on our computers. W/10 had scheduled itself to install today on my wife's laptop. So far it is waiting for me to tell it when i want to.

W/10 had scheduled itself to install tomorrow on this desktop. I turned it off on this computer too and hopefully won't turn itself back on.

Steve,

go back and make sure you run GWX Control Panel, and then run Never10 in that order.

So today I come to check the overnight happenings about the forum world . My plan was to get the never 10 or something installed today . It seems the weasels have snuck in and put program all in place . Up pops the windows 10 notice that I have to choose when to install the new devil. Sorta like I have to make an appointment for them to ruin my magic box. So if I disappear , they may find a hammer thru the drive.

can updates be turned off now ,or has the horse slipped out of the barn already?

quote: I don't understand why people put up with Microcrap when there are better operating systems out there.

There has been better operating systems that would work on an IBM desktop clear back to the 80's that I know of. I've always used microcrap for one simple reason, thats what programmers write software for.
Back about 79' I had a Compustar Superbrain, and I had to write the software to get one drive to communicate with the other.
Along comes IBM with the desktop and Bill gates, then the clones, and everybody was writing software for them.

My grandson is a programmer for a large company, but he's the type that can live in a rubber room with a six pak Pepsi. Not me, I like to get outside every once in a while.

I don't know what the key to success is, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

all you need do right now, fast, is to go up a few posts and run GWX Control Panel.

Then you need to install Never10.

put shortcuts to both of those programs on your Desktop so you can check them once in a while.

here, I got the links again.

this crap is serious, if any more of you are using Win7 and you don't wish to join the World Mess of Win10, do it right now, before you leave your computer.

I still run XP on a few machines around the house.

2 systems are XP pro
8 systems are Win 7 pro
1 system is Vista
2 Servers are running Server 2003

No intentions of Win 8 or 10.

I freed myself of Microsoft about ten years ago and haven't regretted a second of that time.
