Election day traffic

With voting compulsory in Australia, it's a good day to minimise riding. Everybody is out, and for some reason, it's always more hectic than normal. It'll all be over at 1800 tonight after an 8 week campaign. I don't think my sanity would survive a long US campaign.

Its a long couple of years here in the USA with a lot of redundancy in what we here......

On the bright side, no Politician can go 2 years with breaking the Laws and screwing up. He who does it the least wins........

Well that's voting done and a $20 fine avoided. Funny that the federal fine is so low, non voting in a Queensland state election can cost $118.

I doubt that the USA could ever make it a liability for NOT voting...

it is pathetic the degree of slopiness our public has towards the political election process.

Our last Tuesday's voting was decided by the lowest voter turn out in Oklahoma history, less than 4% of the voting public bothered to vote

Talk about 1 man's vote making a difference, it sure did....
in the race for our local County Supervisor, the highest candidate got 48% of the vote with a total of 567 votes.

then next highest was 112 votes...

yet, we have to have a Run Off election, and more money wasted, because no candidate achieved 50.1% of the vote for a clear majority.

pathetic...........................

We have preferential voting, numbering the candidates from 1 onwards. If no number 1 exceeds 50%, the number 2 of the lower counts are applied, then the number 3 etc until someone gets over the 50%. It gives the same result as the run off system i see used in Europe, but without having to go back and vote again. Results for the lower house should be known tonight, but the Senate will take a few weeks. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elec...m_of_Australia

With mandatory voting there I certainly hope your voters are better informed than ours. We have folks in the US that should receive a fine for even getting near a voting booth. Good thing politics isn't allowed here.
