Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017

EDIT: Keep this thread clean and to only discussing the rules. This forum is not a host for discussing firearms per se.

As I understand this new law, When Approved by Congress, will supersede states like New Jersey and New York from making it illegal for those of us with CCW permits to travel thru, and overnight, in their states.

Introduced in House (01/03/2017)

Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017
This bill amends the federal criminal code to allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms.
A qualified individual must: (1) be eligible to possess, transport, or receive a firearm under federal law; (2) carry a valid photo identification document; and (3) carry a valid concealed carry permit issued by, or be eligible to carry a concealed firearm in, his or her state of residence.
Additionally, the bill specifies that a qualified individual who lawfully carries or possesses a concealed handgun in another state: (1) is not subject to the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm in a school zone, and (2) may carry or possess the concealed handgun in federally owned lands that are open to the public.

Seems like they try to get this done every year. Wish they could have done this last year. Would have saved me over $200. I bet if it ever does get passed the state of New York will fight it.

I keep an eye on this bill every work day of the week. It is wonderful for those who travel thru many states. Its especially good for me since I travel to NJ. There is a case Peruta Vs California which the Supreme court will decide very soon to take it or not. Even if Hr 38 passes the citizens of NJ wont be able to conceal carry in their state. Makes no difference to me since I reside in Fl at this time.
I believe the HR 38 is the trump card for the presidents reelection.

I believe this is a good subject for the traveler motorcyclist but I understand if others take offense. IMHO a link should be created for those that want to participate in to it. The rest dont have to click on it. It certainly beats "fun forum"

205 signatures up to date. It can get to be voted anytime. If it gets to 218 signature it automatically passes the House and moves on to the Senate.

$20 for a 2 year concealed carry permit in New Jersey and they issue them to non-residents

Issuance of the permit is almost completely discretionary, and New Jersey courts have upheld the policy of strictly limiting permits to persons pecifically employed in security work . . . and to others who can establish an urgent necessity for carrying guns for self-protection.

Florida requires people offering security services to be licensed. There is a Florida Handbook here
https://licensing.freshfromflorida.c...equest493.aspx

A class D security license requires a 40 hour training class (and you cannot do security work without being employed by a class b firm). The class G license required to carry a gun requires an additional 28 hour training class.

I will probably never see the state of NJ.
But, it irks me that there are still places where my travels can be burdensome.

I have OTR friends who refuse to deliver products in NJ and try to stay away from NY if possible.
