yeah,
I now have about 4 different speed tests available, and each access the modem in a different way, or processes the packets in a different way.....

and it seems that none of the twain shall meet....
my general consensus is that the Google Speed Test is the "most honest" of the group for browser related testing, e.g. uploading videos to YouTube for instance.... it seems to me, that if I use the mBytes of video and the length of time to upload it, that it correlates back to the actual upload speed reported by Google Speed Test....

for historical records, www.SpeedTest.net is the best of them all... but I have noticed that the upload speeds there are always reported lower than any other speed test.... does that mean it is the "most accurate" ?? dunno... but it is consistent in the history reports. as a general feel of how things are going, I use it when I want a record.... I do not use it repeatedly thru the day.... that messes up the historical value.

for a fast and generally honest test, I am now using Google Speed Test for a quick "what is happening now" information.....

like right now, it is 0630 and Google says:
Internet speed test
20.9 Mbps download

0.64 Mbps upload

funny, I thought it would have a faster upload time now...... me being CST, I guess the east coast has been awake a couple hours and is bogging down the ViaSat.....
there is ONLY ONE ViaSat for the entire USA as of today....
they have a 2nd one in the works waiting on a rocketship to push it up there.

and now again
11/19/2018 06:47
19.2 Mbps download
3.26 Mbps upload

the only thing constant, is that it is never the same any two times you do the testing.

Now that's fast compared to what I deal with.

ViaSat is gone...
talked with Atlas Broadband, they have a Radio Broadcast service to provide internet service to their customers.

they are coming out to do a site survey, meaning that they will bring a radio with them and see if there is enough signal here to set me up with a satellite service off of their radio tower.

they say they can provide me with 50 mpbs unlimited.... pricey though at $99.95/month
but, if it works, and it does not have drop outs, it will be worth it for me.
that will give me 15 mbps upload speeds... which has been my biggest complaint on everything I have tried.

Jerry,
that is very good, 3 times faster than the best thing that is even available in our rural area.

to give you an idea, on a good day, my DSL tests like this:

11/20/2018 09:27 a.m.
11.1 Mbps download ( yours is 15 times faster )
0.94 Mbps upload ( yours is 12-15 times faster )

so use those numbers to compare with what you have.

your ping time is 55 times faster than the satellite service I used for 5 days, they took it back last night.

and better than even my DSL which links direct to the internet backbone.

PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data. ( Google.com )
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=118 time=21.8 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=118 time=19.0 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=3 ttl=118 time=19.4 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=4 ttl=118 time=19.5 ms

well, the drama is over...

today, AT&T was out at least 10 times.... I have deleted the log so can't verify that, but every time I wanted to post something, the internet was dead.

then about 1 PM, the local broadband radio service guy came by and did a site survey, and the cost to install their system was going to hit $500....
Because the only "line of sight" location was 200 feet west of my house in the middle of grassy lawn.

that meant they had to install a tower to support their antenna and radio.
that also meant that the coax to the radio had to be buried, and a trencher rented.
they wanted $2.50/foot to do the trenching....
I found a rental trencher for $125 for 4 hours....
any way, it all totalled up to $500 to install it and me doing the trenching.

I said "no" and call the satellite guy, and he came out and installed a new modem with my name on it.... and I am now using the ViaSat service.

Now you'll have better service and won't have AT&T and poor service.

well,
there has been a lot of angst with the decision to keep the satellite, or let it go.

AT&T went 3 days without a miss, and I notified the satellite guy that I might be turning it back.

then AT&T went crazy again with a whole slew of outages.

in the end, it is the fact that AT&T is so undependable that Cyndi and I have decided we are going Satellite.

it has only had two outages since we got it, both were modem upgrades.
