I wasriding up to the Toll Booth on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. My friend Ed who was in front of mestopped and paid his toll. I pulled my dollar out of my pocket so I could just pass it to the the toll collector.

NOT, I dropped the dollar pulling it out of my pocket and then tried to bend down to pick it up while still sitting on the bike withit in gear.

Trust me on this when I say this is not a good idea.

Just as I was within millimeters of gettinghold of the dollarI leaned just a little to far and over she went.

So there I am sitting on a sideways bike in the middle of the lane with a bizillion people watching. I hit the kill switch got off the bikeput the kickstand down, walked around the bike sat my butt on the seat and pushed the bike up and over on to the kickstand, got my dollar and got back on the bike. I noticed the people in the car behind were smiling in an amused way, the Toll collector kept asking if I was alright. The traffic in the next lane had stopped to watch along with the five deep cars waiting to pay the toll.

Then the bike would not startuntil I realised the kill switch was flipped. Mean while my friend Ed had parked his bike and was walking back to help me. FinallyI got my bike started, paidthe Toll and droveup to Ed.

Luckily Nothing was hurt except myego and I know Ed and Vern willnot let me forget as long as I live.

Been there, and did just exactly that. Wasn't a toll booth, but I lost my glove just as I was pulling them on a few seconds after having backed out of my drive way.

There I was, sitting in the street, parked at a 45 degree angle and "plop". Glove on street. No problem, I just reach down, pick it up, start to pull it on, and thud!

Bike down, and me under it.

They do go down fast, don't they??

Similar situation here, just when the weather started to warm up this spring. I stopped for a red traffic light. My left pant leg had ridden up over my boot so I raised my left foot to shake the pant leg down. I leanedthe bike just a little to far to the right and over she went.I climbed off, lowered the side stand, "butt" backed it back up, remounted - restarted, just as the light turned green - then drove off as if nothing had happened.... but very embarrassed.

It happens!!

No kidding, it's like you just know at a certain point there is no stopping it so you just let it drop, get off, take a bow and then right the bike.

At some point you realize that all you can do is slow the fall. Since it was to some degree controlled, it wasn't dropped but rather "Horizontally parked".

Welcome to the club...... I have done it a few times myself.

I have learned that when I drop something that I can reach down and pick up, I put the side stand down first and then lean the bike over to the side stand. Then I am free to pick up without worry.

Yeah... I leaned that from experience.

They say: Good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.
