All

I'm new to gold wings and this forum.

Recently picked up a 1985 Aspencade, couldn't pass up the deal. My original plans were to re-sell the bike to make a quick profit. After putting 200 miles on it I will NOT be selling anytime soon. I'm hooked.

I'm looking for advice on things i should go over before I take this bike on an extended trip. my destination is 1300 miles round trip. I've ridden motorcycles my whole life, and in the 200 miles i rode the gold wing everything seemed to function as it should, no issues at all.

Seems like a bunch of knowledgeable people on here, though I'd take advantage of that. Does anyone recommenced specifics that I should " go over" before taking the trip? I would very much appreciate any advice!!!! The bike has 24, 500 miles, and does not seem to be neglected in anyway. I am the 3rd owner.

thanks

Jake

Even if it rode well, it's still got some age on it so make sure to check all the rubber stuff. Get's brittle after this time.
Other than that, probably just routine stuff you'd do on any older bike.

Congrats on the wing and welcome!

You should do some research on the stator. That was an issue on the 1200s.

Wow, that's low miles. You better get on it and ride it. Need to put some miles on that bike.

We need pictures!

same comments.. rubber stuff... but that includes timing belts.

MIght also learn a little about the "three yellow wires"... eliminating the connector might save your stator..

Thanks for the replies. I will post a picture once I take one tonight. I've only had the bike for a week, and as you can see I'm very eager for a trip.

I currently have a 06 Victory Vegas. Gets pretty tiring after 200 miles ( no windshield).

Also I forgot to mention. The goldwing sat for 6 years. I drained the tank, Charged the battery and it fired right up. It ran rough at first, added a few ounces of "sea foam" www.seafoamsales.com....I'm sure most have heard of it, cant say enough good things about this stuff.

If it were mine:

New timing belts,

change all fluids,

The stator check thatwas already mentioned,

Visually inspect the tires, old rubber is not good,

Nice find , have fun.
