Hello, I have 1998 Goldwing Apsencade and I am performing my own tune up ( dont want to pay the dealers cost, and my wife's grandfathers always says if you going to own a horse you need to feed it too) I have the oil, oil filter and now I am looking at air filters. I see alot of goldwing riders use K&N but what about Fram?????? i found somewhere that the Fram C4309 filter will fit a 1998 GL1500 Aspencade, is this true????? Also Spark plugs, does bosche make a sparkplug that will fit a gl1500 as well??? whot do you all recomend???????
Fram is not looked upon too favorably on this forum.
However, the Walmart SuperTech filters are respected very well.
K&N IMO is a quick way to sandpaper the inside of your engine.
That "more airflow" is a result of a coarser filter media.
ie, larger holes equal more dust.
JMO of course and worth 1.75 cents in today's depressed markets.
The problem with air filters, you only have 3 or 4 choices. You have Honda, K & N, and EMGO, and maybe some supercheap Chinese one. Oil filters are different. Plenty of choices for the oil filter.
Fram makes a pretty good air filter, don't know if they make one to fit your 1500 though. I will not use Fram oil filters on anything, nor K&N air filters. Stick with the NGK plugs, you can get them from a parts store, or autolite is a pretty good replacement. Bosch plugs only work well in German cars, never had any luck with them in anything else.
AZgl1500, since you mentioned K&N air filters... A person I ride with has been trying to get me to replace my K&N filter for over two years. Yesterday he sent me an article detailing the tests results for severalmajor air filters (verses OEM). To my surprise, K&N is one of the worst rated filters for efficiency. In other words, when it comes to trapping particles it was rated very low. In fact, K&N filters could be considered too inefficient to be considered for use. I'll attempt to post the article ASAP.
