Apparently there is a difference between wet cell and AGM battery chargers and a wet cell charger can easily cook an AGM battery, whether it's got a cutoff (maintainer type) or not.

The regular suppliers of this equipment don't appear to appreciate this but the main ones do, I spoke to a Interstate guy who says you definately have to have a specific charger or your going to be in trouble.

What is your experience?

For what it's worth and if I may be so bold? The current rebuild of the `80, `81, `82 & `83 GL1100STDASPENSTATE can be followed on classicgoldwings.com in a thread called "The plan is to turn 140,000 into 50,000."

Odessy has their own charger that they recommend using.
There is a post on this in the past couple weeks. Do a forum search.

I just connected another battery in parallel with my AGM and used an ammeter to verify that it was drawing only 0.7A.

My name is Rusty. I'm an enthusiast of things that ride, drive and fly.
