I have had a concealed Carry License for the last 28 years. One of my friends noticed my gun the other day and said he never knew I carried. He said well the rest of us carry and I said I knew you show yours around. I said if I have to pull my gun out I want it to be a surprise to people. The strange thing is I go to the range every 2 weeks and put several clips through my Gun. They never practice at all and expect to hit what they shoot at. Personally they scare me someone who knows what to expect and how to shoot doesn't. One of them has never fired the gun he carries and says it doesn't matter because he has 14 shots in the clip. WOW!!!

I always tell people that carrying a Gun is like Car insurance you hope to hell you will never need it. But when that psycho appears your glad you had it.

It would give me pause ,as well. Purple Pirate.
Some one that relies on "spray and pray" tactics,is someone I would avoid.
I would rather get in one, well -placed shot, than a lot of "where -did- they -go" shots .

It's basically the same with anything that you want to be able to do with muscle reflex and not thinking about it. I pity the poor bystanders if they are just squeezing out 14 rounds and hoping to hit the right person.

For me the same goes for riding. I go out to an empty parking lot at least once a month just to practice maneuvering. You don't have time to think about what you are doing and try to remember the right steps. It's got to come quick and natural.

NVSB4... where are you in Texas? I'm rat smack in the middle here in San Marcos...

I never really thought about carrying my pistol with me on the bike before 2012. On my way home from NASSIR 5, I got into an altercation with a couple of whacked out drunks in the parking lot of a motel in Marshall...

It got a bit scary before the cops showed up. One of the guys bolted. they took him into custody immediately... they ended arresting the other for just generally being abusive to the officers.

That was a turning point for me... I can remember thinking about it as I rode into SMTX the next day... "the world is changing."

I have never carried in my life, never felt the need for it.

But the daily newspaper reports of life in our "metroplex" town of Tulsa, OK is causing me to wonder if I even dare drive into that city w/o a way of protecting myself.

A man from Missouri had a new Cadillac Escalade SUV taken from him at knife point "under the front door roof" at the Double Tree hotel earlier this week.

That's just one event, a girl of 17 shot in the head simply because she was driving a friend who was the actual target in a gang related incident... and it just goes on...

I live right in the middle between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Most of my riding is done here locally, so I try to stay out of the trouble spots. On the trips I take it's usually with a couple of friends, so there is a better "strength in numbers" scenario.
Was really nice a few years back when one of my riding buddies was a moto officer on his service bike. Never seemed to have any issues at all then.

Dee Eff Dubbya... Lawdy bro... you must have 'Nads-O-Steel" to ride those streets daily.

I am going to heading out for a big loop up through OK, KS, SD, ND, MT, WY, ID, UT, CO and NM on June 8th. Likely to be out for about three weeks. I am deliberately avoiding the metroplex... gonna jet straight up 281 through Wichita Falls... (1st night) straight on up through OK to Andover, KS. (2nd night.)

Gonna go "ride-about" for awhile... and yes, I will be carrying my gun.

All legal and dutifully broken down, unloaded in a zipper case.

I'm with you on that. I went out and obtained a CCL from Florida because then I was a legal alien. Now I'm a citizen and have an AR license. I enjoy making holsters and have made a IWB/OWB holster for the best of both worlds.

It's kind of like a parachute. It's better to have one and not need it than to need it and not have one.
I agree with Purple pirate. If I ever have to use it(God forbid), I want it to be a complete surprise.
