We Are Now A 2 Bike Family.

Much to Bike's dismay, I came home with an '85 Interstate today. In pieces, literally. Couldn't get the motor to turn over with the starter, jumped from a car battery, and really don't have much hope for it as a runner, but I will give it a chance to live before I part it out.
Mostly, I bought it as a parts bike. I has rusty but smooth brake rotors and decent looking gauges. (46,000 on the odometer)
It's been sitting outside for at least 2 years, I'd guess. The guy selling it for his dad didn't know anything about it, or where the missing seat and backrest may be. Most of the rest of the parts seem to be there, though they've been piled on pallets all this time and show some wear.
I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Why ain't we ridin'?

Here's some quick pics.

The original stator plug is still there...?
The tires are essentially brand new but I haven't looked at the dates.
Plastic, like the meter shroud, is all faded.
The thing really looks like someone was taking care of it until they decided to open up the front...maybe to change the belts, but/or why, was all the plastic taken off?
Tank is rusty, so I have to assume the carbs are clogged up.
The only wiring issue is (I think) the pulse generator wiring.

Anyway, I'll post more when it starts to cool off around here and I can look more closely.
Oh and its an early '85 with a Japanese motor. And a California model.

Japanese engine meaning pgs in rear like an 84 ? And California meaning it's going to be a little different . Like the LTD I aquired couple months ago it's a Cali gas cap has a hose attached to it

No, the PGs are in the front. There were a few "transition" models. And yes, the CA model has a bunch more vacuum plumbing, including the hosed gas cap and that chrome tank on the right side.

Having two bikes is twice the fun. Lets you ride one and wrench on the other. When you are done wrenching...SWITCH!

As you suspect an Interstate or Aspencade will not run with only one pulse generator connected.

Any chance the pulse generators were replaced by the single one from an LTD?

Advise given here is free and comes with no warranty "Caveat emptor"

Ken.

I don't know, but I'll take a closer look tomorrow. That very well could be the issue, judging from the wiring mess.
It's still about a million degrees out so I'm not going to dedicate a lot of time on it until it cools off a bit. I do want to turn the motor over with a wrench to see if it even will turn. Clockwise only, or is that urban legend?
