Parts by the side of the road

Coming back from a trip to Orlando, I saw a young man by the side of the road with his trunk up and back doors open. I pulled off to see if he needed a hand. He said he was fine and that he was picking up body parts ( car, truck, bike) off the side of the road. He said his Dad does it and re sells the parts on line and makes a good 2nd income doing it. I look in his trunk and see a goldwing battery cover, I ask what he would ask for something like that, he said about $10 depending on the shape it's in. As I drove off I started looking at the side of the road and thought, this kid just hit the mother load! Smart kid....

You should have bought that battery cover on the spot.

I did not need one. But did tell my wife that I should have offered to buy it.

Yep some of those go for over $100. He may have hit the mother load.

Its known in California that if you want or need a side cover panel, batt cover or other parts,,joining a volunteer freeway cleanup crew often yields Hundreds of dollars in parts!
Here, you can get a mile or two section that you or your group are responsible for.

Even get a thank-you sign posted along that area,,,this section maintained by Sac Wingers as example

When I needed a battery cover for an 86 vt1100, many junkyards suggested I start scouring the freeway, as thats where all of them are located!!

Caution! on finding a yellow liquid filled sports drink bottle aka Trucker Bombs
as their HERE = Human Element Range Extender - bottle gets tossed at road signs ---for target practice

Note2: Suitcases/carry on luggage bags MAY contain a more solid waste product.
When you're on a schedule there is no time to wait for a rest area...stranger things have happened.

My brother hauled race cars across the country every weekend,,,many wild stories from that!

Here we get inmates to volunteer to do that.
