Replacement body part (human)

Since a couple of you out there are in the slightly older age group I was wondering how many of you have had hip replacements and how that has affected your riding? Both of my hips have gone out and I am looking at replacements. It is at the point now that I can't ride due to the instability of my hips so I have to get it done. I just want to know if I will be riding afterwards or do I put the bike up for sale.

from what I have read, once the healing is done, folks are able to get back on their bikes and ride again.

as to whether it was 2 wheels, or 3 wheels, I can't remember that part.

listen to this man, who has returned to his former hobbies

My wife had a hip replaced a few years and it is way better. Knees can be iffy, but hips usually come out pretty good.. She also had the newer operation where they go in without cutting the muscle which heals faster and stronger. Don't give up. Good luck.

After years of severe pain, my sister just had both hips done a few months apart. She was walking the day after each surgery, and is in great shape now. I told her not to exceed the load rating on the new ones, because I'm her younger brother and I get to do that...

Hi Rickf1985; and also all "seniors":

I've started to have same pain while riding about the start of 2017, after some IMR doctor told me that that hip was no longer good, and eventually had to be replaced, that I could wait until it became worst or arrange an appointment for replacement; so I decided not to have more pain.

I've had my right hip replaced on 05/05/17 and I resumed riding by September that year. No bad side effects, I feel healthy and strong, even forgot that went thru surgery.
More on this issue, last march I was going out and made a big stupid thing while climbing her, (\Two stupid things that I did_) and forgiving at that time of my surgery I tried to pick her up, maked an uncontrolled effort and ruptured my last dorsal vertebra. Now all healed Iím start riding again, but the weather doesnít allow me for itís raining almost all weekends.

Please donít worry, it wonít be worst than itís now.

Be strong and ride safe and happily.

BTW, next month Iíll be 76 YY.
Mario.

No, next month you will celebrate the 37th anniversary of your 39th birthday.

Avoid your forties. That's when all the bad stuff starts.

Thank you Dennis for the tip, :claps: but I believe it'll sound better when I'll say " my twin 38's":ROFL:,

Thanks Mario, That is exactly the real world experience I was looking for. I already had the lower back surgery so I know how that works. Thanks to all that replied. I see the surgeon in two weeks to schedule the right side and then I guess he will do the left sometime after. I would like to be able to get back in the seat come springtime.

Back when I was riding funeral escorts in Ohio (primarily on 'Wings), my boss had both hips done about 18 months apart starting in 2001. He was back on the bike sooner than he was supposed to be on the first one, but I never saw any issues with him riding.

Rick, You need to keep in mind that each individual is different. The rate of healing and final recovery is different for everyone. Therapy is very important....!

We are not all created exactly equal. Doctors, hospitals and individuals all contribute to the success (or not).

Not trying to scare you, just believe in telling things the way they are.......!!

Hope your surgery goes well and you recover youthfully.
