One more thing about coming to a stop at an intersection.

stay at least a car length back from the vehicle in front of you.....

and point the bike at the widest open ESCAPE ROUTE available, ( front wheel MUST be straight inline with bike )

keep the throttle up a few 100 rpm, tranny in 1st gear, and clutch held in tight,
bike vertical, both feet on ground..... use hand brake to keep you from rolling....

and ready to blast out of there if you see a vehicle in the mirror coming up fast!

I have had to leave once in that situation in Phoenix, AridZona.... and the guy behind me hit the rear end of the car in front of me. only I was not there anymore.

and, as you are coming up to that intersection stop, start weaving from lane edge, to lane edge,
this causes the traffic behind you to see Horizontal Left/Right movement.......

this makes your bike VISIBLE to them.....

a bike that never moves left/right, is INVISIBLE

I also have a Pool Noodle tied to the trunk rack, hangs out to the left.....
it is bright orange, and it waves in the wind, and gets the attention of traffic.....

crazy? not for me it isn't.... cars stay behind me two and three full car lengths because they don't know what I am going to do..... and that keeps me safe.
