For sale: 1985 Gold Wing Interstate Denver CO $2800 OBO

For sale is a 1985 Honda Gold Wing Interstate with only 41,3xx miles. I've owned it since 2007, but have put just 12,000 miles on it. I've done a lot of work on it, and wouldn't hesitate to take it across the continent tomorrow. I'm selling because I'm downsizing and don't ride it often enough to justify keeping it.

A classic bike with 1200cc displacement, with plenty of power to ride two-up or to pull a light trailer. It's fun passing everyone on steep mountain grades.

The work I've done:

Fixed stator wire and replaced dog bone fuse (known to be issues on these bikes) 2007
Installed and reinforced hitch with 1-7/8" ball 2007
New timing belts 2007
New Metzeler ME 880 Marathon touring tires 2008 at 31,375 miles
Boiled and etched fuel tank January 2008 (no rust!); plus new fuel lines and fuel sender gasket at 29,600 miles
Cleaned carb bowls; set float heights; synched carbs January 2008
Clutch and brake lines flushed and bled January 2009
New fuel pump and filter 2011 at 35,600 miles. This is a retrofitted NAPA automotive fuel pump, not the cheap, unreliable Chinesium pumps now available. It does clack when sitting at red lights, especially on hot days.
New AGM battery 2012 at 37,200 miles. I'm pretty sure I've replaced it again in the last few years but can't find the receipt.
New speedometer gearbox November 2016
Front and rear brakes rebuilt (new boots, piston seals, and pads) November 2016 at 40,600 miles
Clutch and brake lines flushed and bled November 2016
Fork forks rebuilt (new fork seals) November 2016
Fresh oil, filter, and coolant November 2016
New seat upholstery November 2016
New fuel shutoff valve, fuel sender gasket, and gas cap gasket March 2018

Quirks:

Right side mirror is a bit loose.
Previous owner replaced turn signal switch with another in the location of the hazards switch. It works well, but the hazards switch is no longer there. Possible to restore to original condition.
Above-mentioned clacking of the fuel pump when there is no demand for fuel.
Slight shimmy at 35mph, this is characteristic of the GL1200s.

The aesthetics:

Bike has a few scratches and a bit of peeling paint, as one would expect of a 33-year-old bike.
I lost a pannier cover on the highway (always check your latches!); the replacement is not the same blue.
The guaranteed-to-fit-perfectly upholstery covers did not; I built up the seat, making it even more comfy, but the upholstery job is not perfect. The grey color is much nicer on the derriere than black on hot days, though.

I've kept it covered and/or garaged since buying it.

Bike comes with two original keys, a newer Guardian cover, and two excellent maintenance manuals: The Honda 1984-87 Service Manual, and the Clymer manual for the same period. These manuals are from the era when it was expected that owners be given all the information necessary to work on their vehicles. There are also two excellent online communities for questions and support: www.goldwingfacts.com and goldwingdocs.com.

If you want, I'll throw in a spare engine (condition unknown) which might be useful for parts down the road. Also a box with the old fuel pump, some oil filters, and other sundries.

Currently titled (clear title) and registered in Colorado. Registration is $49 a year. For me, insurance is just $93 a year (with Progressive).

$2,800 or best offer. Bike is in Denver, Colorado.

Email me directly at [email protected] for more pix or info.

Thanks!
