Points on the frame that are specifically designed and type approved to attach a towbar.

Honda approved hitch/receiver assembly available as an accessory.

Honda must see what the majority of people are doing with their bikes, with the right instructions and safeguards in place Honda could make this a far easier and safer option for the Goldwing.

Does fitting a towbar and towing a trailer invalidate your warranty?

According to the dealers here it does BB. Most of them value their customers though and they don't make an issue of this when warranty work is being done. After all, it's the same dealers that sell us the towbar kits in the first place.

BB if you look in the hand book supplied with your bike you will read that Honda does not advise you fit a trailer or sidecar to this vehicle .Also states a limit to how much weight you put in the top box and panniers. Its there way of a disclaimer because we all ignore it.

Yes I am really using this post to make this request to Honda's Goldwing Team. I have just fitted a Big Bike towbar and quickly began to realise that no one is looking at standards for this.

Honda's position is simple - dont do it, however a company like Honda with the resources and technology could easily create a system for towing that is suitable and safe and sets a standard, this gives the average owner who has no specialist knowledge asafe choice.

Type approved mount points - are the most important as it is currently the case in the UKthat every goldwing made after 2002 is breaking the law if it tows a trailer. This does not mean Honda accept any liability if people tow trailers, but gives them the option.

Why can't they have the Trailer, Towbar, electrics as a standard for the Goldwing though, make towing a mainstream safe thing for motorcycling - another first for Honda!

My guess is that there are far too many variables involved for Honda to endorse trailer towing.

Different attitudes toward safety is a very prominent factor. Some riders know their machines and trailers and load them properly for highway use while others place absolutely stupid loads in their trailers, like full size BBQ's and full propane tanks and drive down the highway without so much as tying these items down securely, then a panic stop occurs and everything goes flying. Then the idiot's lawyer will sue Honda for innappropriately advising the rider that it is OK to tow a trailer behind the Gold Wing.

Then you get the type's who don't like and will not use safety chains to attach the trailer to their bike then a bump is hit, the trailer is off on its own and aimed to kill someone. If it does kill someone Honda will get blamed because the rider will claim that Honda should have made a better hitch because that's the reason the trailer separated. Get the idea?

Under the very best of conditions towing a trailer behind a motorcycle is an extremely risky proposition because you never know how the trailer will respond in an emergency situation. Many guys tow trailers behind their Wings and never have an incident, but emergency situations don't really happen often, but when they do that's when the trailer deeply affects the braking and handling abilities of the motorcycle and you just can't predict what it will do because with no brakes and no steering on the trailer, the trailer just becomes dead uncontrollable weight that can and will bring your bike down if the conditions are right.

A trailer behind a motorcycle,to me, is like wing-walking on an airplane. If everything goes well it's awesome and funto do, but, one simple miscalculation and things become radicallybadextremely fast.

Maybe Honda thinks the same way I do or maybe not but I can't say for sure Bart. I just know that if I owned Honda that I would not not want the extreme liability that a trailer behind a motorcycle brings to the corporate table.
