I hadn't thought of it that way, hmmmm

Maybe we should find a way of making them take more pride in the fact that they have soo many (older) bikes on the road, and owners willing to keep the older bikes on the road, Make it all about PRIDE in Honda's or Goldwings

One thing that's really odd.

When Honda made the long lasting Gold-Wing and "IF" they knew they were selling toproud owners, wouldn't that in itself beget an extended OEM parts stockand/oran external warehouseHonda-shop "repair life" much longer than 10 years?

They (Honda & other Jap motorcycles) do have arather long track record of long life vehicles. This makes me wonder if "they"only have short term pride per vehicle and/or it's only about sales? If it's only about sales possibly they've hit a brick wall with the 1800 Wing and pulled out of America knowing the price was going to be very high ($30K) in this economic poor time. With the Wing nowback in their country, they have more control over what they'll offer in exports. While it was here, it was Americans who directed what the Wing should be.



Though we're still only conjecturing.

well now,the newest 1500 is 10 years old and my 1800 is almost 10 years old...........................whatter we gonna do?

Shawnee Honda in Shawnee Oklahoma,will work on all gold wings if they can get the parts.. I will only go to them as I like there attatude and workman ship..

I was told by a dealer that they would not work on older bikes but now that the economy is in the tank they sent me a letter telling me they now proudly work on older bikes. I will never even buy a screw from them. They should have thought about customer service before the economy took a dump. I do what I can and what I can't there is a guy who works on anything at what I feel is a decent price and does a good job. He is even willing to let me watch and learn. I will use him and spread the word about him to anyone who will listen. My .02 worth.

Local dealer in my town has a bad attitude about older bikes and just wants to sell you new ones. I agree with:
Dealers don't have techs that are experienced on old bikes, because they are often too CHEAP to pay them enough to keep them from moving on.
Found a super shop in same town and the guy works out of his garage. He has been working on bikes for over 30yrs. His prices are very fair and work is great. Takes his time and not your money....

It's sad any way you look at it and I can understand both sides to a point! Look at what they charge an hour, any way, to me it's a lot. In today's economy, I agree if they couldn't work on it before, why work on it now!! I am seeing some parts N/A and I am coming to find what I need on flea bay ! When it comes the day I can't find parts in need, I'll probably buy another 10yr. old bike, one I can work on! Gee maybe by then I'll buy a Harleyor at least one that doesn't vibrate my hands to sleep! Bob

I'm guessing why Honda dealers or dealers in general won't work on older cycles. 1. Lack of knowledge. 2. Parts are sometimes a pain to find or are not made anymore.3. Liability, I would think that this is more than likely the main reason for a dealer not to deal with an older bike, I have to wonder if their Insurance companyhas to do with anything...Peopleare killed on cycles and if someone blamesa shop for the accident, that could be areason, or maybe not.. I know this, there are a lot of dealers that will not work on my 81, this site has been a blessing for me, I have solved a lot of my problems myself thanks to imformation on this site...

This is really not a complex issue. Money is money. If the dealer offers the customer a good faith estimate, and the customer is willing to pay..............why not? More than likely the customer base will be repetitive. Even if a customer refuses to pay, the dealer can always sell the bike and probably make a profit and even gain a new customer.

Besides, Goldwingers are of a different mindset. They’re loyal to their bikes and willing to pay whatever it cost to ensure reliability. Nothing can compare to peace of mind, when you are 500 miles from home on Route 66, and you’re a 100 miles from the nearest sign of civilization!

Do most auto manufactures offer repair service to even much older vehicles? Of course they do. I doubt if Honda Corp. cares about this issue. This is a collective limitation decision devised by local dealers.
