Man, What I am hearing is a very defeatist attitude. Buy a older wing and fix it up and ride the wheels off of it.

If there is a market for a product the product will be made.

Once I put a BMW engine in a MOTO Guzzi frame and all it took was a small adapter for the driveshaft.

American ingenuity will win out in the end.

Never give up and Never stop dreaming.

I enjoy building things that no one else has built and when someone says "you can't do that" It just inspires me.

I was talking to my brother the other day and in a joking way he said.Well why don't you just put a flat head v8 Ford engine on the thing well with the 1800 frame you most likely could do just that who knows.

I was thinking more along the lines of a small water cooled car engine. Isnt a subaru a flat four or six?

Maybe even a four cylinder ford motor like the old pinto engines in 2.0 or 2.3 liter, I always liked those engines.

All a Subaru engine is a boxer engine like a Honda.Porche have built boxer engines for years these are time tested engines and are made to hop up too.One motortrike is using a Ford Focus powertrain and Mustang rear end and from people that own one it will move.

My suzuki has a good little 4cylinder in it. Toyota's have had good engines in them too. It's not unheard of to have another company make parts for one companies car.

There really is nothing like riding on a wing.

Total Bike Miles: 106,000+ wing miles and counting.

As always there are two sides to the coin. The problem with having Goldwings built in the States for an American market is that they get designed for wide roads and VERY long distances (comparable to Paris-Moscow).



Most of us Europeans have to put up with traffic jams getting out of the driveway of our houses, not very wide motorways and Eastern European truck drivers. Towns and most cities are still built on the original 16th century road plan which makes manouvering and parking quite difficult.



Japan is also a country which, to say the least, is slightly congested.



This will probably lead to them designing bikes (like the ST1300 and 2012 GL1800) which are a bit more nimble in tight areas, and therefore better suited to the European (and Japenese) model of City Planning.



That being said.... the 2012 Wing does look like the aftermath of a collision between a K1600 and a ST1300 with GL1500 seat and top box. I don't likewhat i've seen so farat all.



Even so, it is difficult to accept the fact that you lost the Wing production, but believe me, it's at least as worse if not even worser over on this side of the pond.



I hope there's nothing political about the above.

Good point Dave, If the bike is sold in areas that needs it to be nimble and maneuverable then it should be. That being said, It wouldn't hurt to be more so over here either. My concern is that it might loose some of it's comfort, but hopefully that's not the case. My 04 is very nimble and I'm not complaining about the weight, but then again I don't have to deal with traffic jams and narrow roads all the time. If we were to make a bike similar to the wing here I would want it to be comfortable enough for loooooong rides and nimble enough for traffic jams and other obstacles.

There really is nothing like riding on a wing.
