So here's a new idea. Let's just post what we did - and if ya did nothing, maybe this thread is inspiration for you to do *something*.

I'll kick it off.

I took the GL-1200 to Barnes and Noble - looking for a magazine for my wife. (yeah, I'm cheating, it was yesterday, but hey - it's 7am here.) And I used some Plexus to clean the windshield.

Finished carb clean, rebuild, PO repair (hopefully fixed more than I broke) of wrong jets, missing float valve filters, stripped threads, wallowed JIS heads, shuffled float bowls. Leak tested with isopropyl, fixed the one leaky float seat (just needed a polish), let it set 24 hours and leak-free. Drained and awaiting some pretty-work on the intake runners. Rear bake rebuild kits are in and I'll start that next. Seriously considering reassembly after brakes are sorted to use it for a daily driver while weather is good. This would point out any problems that need addressed when weather turns cold (and the 1800 returns to DD duty).

Mounted the carbs, but had binding in the throttle return. turns out the push cable is broken. On order along with points. I'm switching it back to points from Dyna S because I want to experiment with Ford TFI modules driving the coils. Also mounted and wired the original taillight and signals. Had to splice in a lot of wire for them, but was able to cannibalize the correct colors from the junker harness.

Okay, technically I did nada. I sat in the garage and stared at the GL1200 for quite a while. The thing has old (is it Markland?) floorboards and a heel-toe shifter conversion on it that I just loathe from an ergonomic standpoint. Too bad, because you'd think that setup would be the bee's knees. I'm sure it probably is for most folks. Not for me evidently. I don't know how many times I've missed gears, knocked it into gear by accident, and frantically searched for the back brake lever with my foot since buying it a couple weeks ago. But hey, it's an old GL1200 and I knew there'd be gold deeper down if you dug for it. Tried ordering a couple used foot pegs to take it back to stock but what came in the mail today doesn't look like a correct fit to me. Will know more when I get the ambition to actually place a wrench on it and remove some of the bling, I suppose. Slight tinge of fall weather is in the air and my energy levels usually jump exponentially.

Took a few minutes to change out the Delo 400 SDE (replacement oil for LE) 15W-40 after 5K and put in Rotella T6 5W-40 along with new K&N Oil filter. I'll take it out for a short "DAM" ride this evening once it cools down around here, , , close to triple digits this afternoon. UGHHH, , ,

I agree with the oil change, same that I am using in my 1800 now.

but, K&N? that would be the bottom of the list for me.
so many good products to choose from, don't skimp on $$ for an oil filter.

OEM Honda or NAPA GOLD 1358 ( has the longer case ), same fluted top for the oil wrench.

HMMMM, , , I have read that the K&N Air filter had a poor performance record, , ,BUT this is news to me regarding the K&N Oil filter. John, I respect your opinion greatly, ,I'll look around for the NAPA or OEM filter. Thanks for the heads up too.

Adjusted the clutch on the '79 IAW the manual - much better! Swapped the tach drive with one from a bad fuel pump. I think the tach drive oil seal had been leaking - a PO had smeared clear silucone on it. If this one doesn't seal, a new seal is on order. Changed oil and filter on the '06 due to temp pegging high yesterday stuck on a one-lane road fir 2.5 hours to go 10 miles. Also installed a Bluetooth receiver on the '06 to permit GPS audio to use Aux input. Garmin neglects to include wired audio outputs on new Zumos.

Yesterday took the Hunley to Brushy Mountain Penitentiary for their Pistons in the Prison show. Today, I cut a new tab for the '79 left side cover and glued it on (ABS plumbing cement) then removed the bimetallic thermometer from the meter panel. It was reading a volt low. Replaced it with an LED digital. Might start building a harness and heat sinks this week for experimenting with a couple Ford TFI modules for the ignition.

I went for a ride with my daughter today. She rode her Yamaha R6, and I was on my GL1000.

It was a great ride down some twisty country back roads. We had fun, and got to spend some time bonding.

This was the first time that I actually rode with someone else, other than some very short rides when I was a kid, and I have been riding since 1972!

D&D is my favorite vendor for mntc.
when I lived in Mesa, they understood that my '94SE was my primary mode of transportation, and I liked that they would give me an appt time....

I would pop in, and just gawk around at the wares they have, or leave it for the day, and pick it up near closing time.

the work was always impeccable.

I crawled underneath rear of our 97GL1500 Lehman GTL trike, did some measuring, thinking, figuring, … about making & adding some sort of rear nurf bars or bumper to prevent my backing into a curb someday. Still looking at stuff, but found some extra pieces. I may make 2 nurf bars that extend out from underneath or maybe I make a wider one that extends towards each exhaust tip from hitch drawbar. I have several take off saddle bag protection loops (3 lefts but just one right?) and I found some floorboards for a 1200 that I removed in the '90s. If I do nurf bars, I'll just use outer 4" of the loops welded to extensions to bolt underneath the trike to the rear frame.

Also added flashing LED's on the trunk brake lights, and ordered a stubby antenna to replace the factory whip. It hits the garage door going in and out.
Getting things ready early for a trip to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone this summer.
Sure glad I found a great deal on a nice trailer for these long trips.
Thanks again Flylow
