I think you are absolutely right and sum up the differences very well. Being tall makes a difference to the comfort aspect too, the 1500 has more leg room for the taller rider.

It sounds like you are pretty sure yours is too loud but it's always best to rule out the easy stuff first, eg. listen to a similar bike if there's one...
