Sigh! I don't think that we will ever see an inch of Fiber around here... Rural folks are left in the dark, even though there is talk of bringing the 'net to us just like everyone else. I had to throw AT&T's DSL out with the dish water, that crap depends on copper wire and is limited to 20,000...
  6. Mint 19.3 beta running on ASUS TUF laptop now

    Computer Talk
Well, after a lot of discussions with the helpers on the Mint forum, I have decided to not attempt to make Win10 SSD visible in Linux. Just leave it alone, I can boot into it anytime that it is needed for TurboTax, etc. When 19.3 LTS arrives, I will install the 1tB SSD and put a fresh install...

Are you running dedicated outlets to each point from your AuxGen? Pretty slick if your are. I didn't have that option with our very old house. that is why I had to install a big 200A Transfer Panel so that the house breaker box could be fed from PSO or the AuxGen, but not both at the same time. .
  8. Mint 19.3 beta running on ASUS TUF laptop now

    Computer Talk
way too damn expensive, for the longest time, I would not use it at all. we did not have a 5g WiFi router, and it crawled. then I bought the Blue Premium unlimited ISP plan, and that made it work. today, recognizing that 19.3 is actually going to be nicer than 18.3 is just icing on the cake.
  9. Internet ISP speed throttling

what they have done, is give us a precious few seconds of "high speed" to allow browsers to load a webpage, and then they roll off hard downloads fast.

  11. Internet ISP speed throttling

    Computer Talk
I do a daily check on how the speed is for me.... Supposedly, I am on a special premium purchase "unthrottled" data plan that assures me that I will get maximum speed even if the local internet community off of the Cell Tower I am using is getting maxed out. SpeedOf.me is the best overall test...

My only suggestion is, that you get the microphone closer to you, the audio is too faint in places.
  13. Partitions - moving them

    Computer Talk
I have never thought of that, a terrific way to prevent loss of data.... I will try that when I get my new-to-me server box up and running. it is a hand me down from a divorcee who did not want any of "his old junk" our own little discussion area here has brought up some neat ideas that never...
  14. Partitions - moving them

    Computer Talk
I remember when I was trying to format a disk prior to installing Linux, that I wanted the /home and /swap partitions and /boot in the "correct order" that meaning the way that I wanted them..... so that all of the data in /home is not in the same partition as the full OS install. I have...
  15. Partitions - moving them

    Computer Talk
yes, moving a partition if it is NOT where you want it. Read this thread https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=306610 and note what this post says: Moving Partitions with Gparted: it is easy when you know how: what is not said 'here', is that you must do this from a Live Session...
  16. Mint 19.3 beta running on ASUS TUF laptop now

    Computer Talk
The install took an extremely long time, 2 hours is my guess, I was reading a book and went to sleep. right now, it is a fresh install, no updates have been applied yet. I wanted to get Firefox setup first, which was super simple, all I had to do was log into Firefox Sync and sit back and wait...
  17. Big brother?

    Miscellaneous Forum
On my '94SE, I had mount fixed to the right handlebar, and set a Sony DSLR fixed more or less straight ahead, the mount had a swivel that would turn with a moderate amount of force. Preset to Automatic Focus, it was easy to just tap the button on top of the frame to take pictures. It also had...
  18. Big brother?

    Miscellaneous Forum
The camera app I am using gives an option to hit the Power Button twice and it comes right up. That at least make it a bit easier to get the camera going. but, to hold it one handed and take pictures? Unless you are shooting video, nope, not going to work.
