Just in case you are not aware... you want to be very careful with how you handle some of the parts on the GL1200 Standard as they are made from unobtainium. If you misplace, lose, or break them, it may take you years to find a replacement. The front run signal brackets, the plastic pieces...

Those mount to the bolts on the pinch point of the lower triple tree. I have a set on my 1100 without any lights... yet.

It can be... if the forks do not come apart easily. I just recently disassembled a set of forks on an 81 and in the process the bushing wore out the backup rings, but since you are only 20 miles away from WesternHonda, I wouldn't worry about it.

The 777's can be a little tricky. As long as you get the ones rated for a heavier load, no problem... you'll get a lot of wear out of them. Make a mistake and buy the ones for a lower weight rating, and you'll be changing them quicker than you expected.

I like the Shinko Tourmasters on my Standard. I get about 7500 out of the rear and 12000 from the front. The lighter weight of the 1200 Standard is easier on these tires. Currently the bike is due for a new set and I recently put antique tags on it, so the new set will probably dry rot before...

The OP is dealing with the fork caps on an GL 1000 which are different from the any other model.

I don't think anyone was suggesting using the fork without the cap in place. A torque tip is a slightly different size from the Allen head and may... MAY... remove the cap without having to drill, tap, chisel, or beat it into submission.

I find it easier to upload pictures to the gallery of the forum and just use that feature. Now if every forum used the same software and all gallery's acted the same, that would make life a lot simpler.

The best thing Honda did with the 1200 was get rid of the circlip that held the drive shaft to the output shaft of the 1000 and 1100.

Good luck with the asking price. A friend recently sold a bone stock original 81 Standard and he was only able to get $3000 for it. A trike and trailer may add some value, but $4000?

I feel your pain John. I'm giving the trailer the last once over and giving both bikes a final look before i decide which one I'm going to pull the trailer with. I'm sweating so much I'm going through 3 or 4 shirts in a day.

I use a speed handle and an extension. It makes it a lot easier than using a ratchet handle.
