  2. 85 1200 Aspy Rear Brake

These pliers work AWESOME for working brake pistons. The new 'vice grip' style ones are junk in my opinion, seen em fail a bunch of ways. I picked these up a few years ago and love them. You can grab the inside of the piston, rotate them and wiggle them out by hand. Great for if you have no...

I picked this GL1200 seat up a couple years ago with the idea in mind to modify it to fit my GL1100. I never got around to it, and have different plans for a seat on my GL1200 that I have now. I see no markings or identification on it except behind the backrest. I took the plastic cover off...
  4. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
The OE rear shock has two springs, not stacked. One is inside the other. I'm not rebuilding with progressive springs as of now, as great as they may be... maybe next season. I'm just rebuilding the suspension back to OE specs as of now.
  5. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
Thank you, great info about the progressives! OE has 2 internal springs with air assist I never thought about adding a seat pad, I don't have much cushioning myself lol, so I may look into that. And I will definitely be checking the preload once it is back together. Is the front supposed...
  6. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
It was actually a direct fit. The pack cost $6 at Advance Auto I dunno why the pictures are turning sideways, they're right side up on my desktop

  8. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
That's what I figured after going back down to the garage. I cut the tops off of 2 empty cans of brake cleaner and they are now soaking in thinner overnight
  9. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

Success at the local auto parts store! They will have to be drilled out, as the member does in the thread I linked, but they should work. And a pic for anyone searching in the future, this may help.
  10. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
Well I kind of answered my own question regarding the bump stop in here: http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/2-goldwing-technical-forum/394579-gl1100-rear-shock-rebuild.html (missed this thread the first time I searched) I guess now that I have a source, unless someone knows of one that will be...
  11. Problem with OEM shock rebuild, question about progressives

    Goldwing Technical Forum
Bike: 1985 GL1200 Interstate I got my new seals in the mail today, so I started the rebuild process after work and this is what I found. I'm guessing its from the incorrect type of fluid previously used some time in the past. The black rubber wad you see on the work bench is what remains of...
  12. Leaking Intake Valve - Leakdown Test

    Goldwing Technical Forum
Sounds good to me, heck anything besides undoing everything I've done sounds good lol I'll try the seafoam through four tanks of fuel and report back to this thread with some results when they come in. Thank you guys! heh... pegs are on the ground almost every time I ride this beast! One of...
  13. Leaking Intake Valve - Leakdown Test

    Goldwing Technical Forum
The air pressure was not moving the crank at all, while it was hissing air I peeked over and looked at the timing mark and it was staying put.

No audible sound from the crankcase breathers either, so I would assume the rings are in good condition.
  15. Leaking Intake Valve - Leakdown Test

    Goldwing Technical Forum
I had the timing inspection cap off and lined up at T-1. I know it was the correct stroke because the first time around, as soon as I put air into the cylinder, like 5 lbs, it began blowing out the exhaust. I turned the crank another 360 to T-1 again and that's the video you watched. After I...
  16. Leaking Intake Valve - Leakdown Test

    Goldwing Technical Forum
I just got everything back together, all fresh orings and gaskets on coolant system, oil change, carb clean, timing belts and pulleys, checked and reset valves. I had to adjust about half of them, and they were very close at that. I left all the plugs out and tested compression with choke...

I'm using 3/4" heim joints, front and rear, to mount the car. The front has an offset and 90' elbow to help with the toe of the car when turning. I had to build a 4-2-1 exhaust in order to make clearance for the rear mount and rail. Before I go any further, I am going to dye test all my...

Sorry I hijacked my own thread last night... it was a bad day lol. So here goes, this time no personal hijacking. Hey everyone, my name is Matt and I'm in Cincinnati, OH. I've had my 83 GL1100 for 4-5 years now. She's on the bench right now for new timing belts, carb clean and sync, valve...
