Garmin is advertising an upgrade to the 2009 GL1800 GPS System for a semi-reasonable price. Considering the factory loaded version is not very efficient (had me going 74 miles to a destination about 21 miles away when choosing 'no highways').... does the upgrade significantly improve it's accuracy.... or just include some pretty graphics?

An upgrade does neither. Is just the addition of roads that have been added to their data base since the version you are currently using. I'm a bit surprised that Garmin is offering this update as the system is Proprietary to Hondas license.

I'm sure that Honda is involved in this update. As for being better, there's roads, streets that still aren't on the 2011 maps, even those in existence for 5-6 yrs. I think Navtec has cut their crew by a large amount, and Garmin is at Navtec's mercy. As well as Magellan, and a few others.

It's a Garmin mapping update. Honda are not involved in the mapping development, it is all Garmin.
